Burnout Feels Like “Meh” — And That’s a Red Flag You Can’t Ignore

Alright, let’s talk about something real.
Not deadlines. Not productivity hacks. Something deeper.
Let’s talk about burnout — the kind that doesn’t scream, but slowly eats away at your joy.

You ever feel like you’re just… empty?
Like even the stuff that used to excite you now feels like just another checkbox?
You’re not lazy. You’re not broken. You might just be burned out.

When Burnout Hits Close to Home

I was listening to Dr. Rupy Aujla from The Doctor's Kitchen recently.
He’s a doctor, online creator, cookbook author — the guy wears a lot of hats.

But even with all his success, he hit a wall.
He described it like this:

“I knew I should be happy… but I just felt numb.”

He started avoiding friends. Lost his natural empathy with patients.
Helping people — something that used to light him up — became just another task.
Another line on the to-do list.

That’s when you know it’s not just “a bad week.”
That’s burnout in full force.

What Does Burnout Really Feel Like?

It’s not just exhaustion.
It’s emotional detachment.
It’s joylessness.
It’s waking up and already wanting the day to end.

And the scariest part? It doesn’t just stay at work.

  • You stop replying to texts

  • Your hobbies gather dust

  • Your relationships fade quietly in the background

It's like someone turned down the saturation on your whole life.

What Dr. Rupy Learned — And What We Can Too

He had to step back.
He had the awareness and the privilege to pause.
To reset, recharge — not just for himself, but for those who couldn’t afford to.

Because here’s the truth: you can’t pour from an empty cup.

He learned to compartmentalize.
To stop carrying everything at once.
To shut one mental “tab” before opening another.

And he didn’t do it alone — his partner helped him set limits, nudged him when he pushed too far.

That’s what recovery looks like:

  • Boundaries

  • Support

  • And the courage to admit “I need a break.”

The Real Question: Are You Living to Work or Working to Live?

This isn’t about quitting your job or running off to Bali.
It’s about noticing the signs before you hit bottom.

Burnout isn’t weakness.
It’s a signal.
It’s your mind and body saying: “Something needs to change.”

So ask yourself:

  • Are you dragging joyless energy from one task to the next?

  • Are you spending your weekends recovering from work instead of enjoying your life?

Then maybe, just maybe, it’s time to reclaim your peace.
